EARTHWORK
Earth's skin is a community of plants (roots, seeds), fungal networks, silt, sand, clay, macro-biota, and micro-biota.
Earthwork or Earthshaping, are practices of rearranging the Earth’s surface with our bodies and with the augmentation of tools. Earthwork may have many aims. Our aims tend towards the making of habitats, human and otherwise.
Avoid disturbing that which doesn’t need disturbing. The careless machine may cause undo soil compaction, or the churning up of soil horizons built over thousands of years of accretion and biotic activity.
We provide careful earth moving services on a small scale. We understand the choreography of our tools (shovels, excavators, skid-steers) as important factors in the design process. Exposed soil is treated as an open-wound: cover quickly with plants and seed!
We are inspired by the creative
Earthwork comes early in our process. The shape of the ground determines the movement of water, humans, and other critters. Earthwork is the sculpting of a foundation for all that is to come.
Make your interventions surgical. Keep your shovel sharp.
